Five Bengals Named NFCA Softball All-America Scholar-Athletes

Jenna Frieling led five Bengals named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its softball All-America Scholar-Athletes, recognizing five Buffalo State players, Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North), Becky Shank (Williamsville/Williamsville East), Carly Lopez (Oriskany/Oriskany), Nicole Maher (Waterloo/Waterloo) and Sonia Veiga (Mexico/Mexico), who achieved a minimum 3.50 grade point average for the 2008 spring semester.

Frieling, a sophomore pitcher and exceptional education major, led the way with a 3.88 GPA. Shank was a junior outfielder studying business administration and earned a 3.83 GPA. Lopez, a junior outfielder majoring in speech and language pathology, had a 3.73 GPA. Maher was junior outfielder studying criminal justice and posted a 3.66 GPA. Veiga, a freshman infielder studying Spanish education, had a 3.53 GPA.

Buffalo State will open the 2009 season in March with its spring training trip to Clermont, Fla.
