Buffalo State freshman attack
Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) became Buffalo State’s first-ever lacrosse All-American, earning third team honors from WomensLacrosse.com, in addition to being named the site’s Division III Rookie of the Year.
Shaddock was also named first team All-Empire Region by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). She shattered the Bengals’ single-season scoring record with 123 points in just 18 games. The math education major led the nation with 74 assists and tallied 49 goals. Shaddock also ranked fourth in the nation with 6.8 points-per-game, and was 12th nationally with 83 draw controls.
Junior
Katie Henderson (Hamburg/Frontier) was also recognized by the IWLCA as second team All-Empire Region. The health and wellness major set a new school standard for goals in a season with 80, and added 16 assists for 96 points. She also became the school’s all-time scoring leader with 178 points (157 goals and 21 assists) in 46 career games.
Buffalo State broke or tied a total of 19 school records in 2009, including wins in a season, finishing 16-2 overall. The Bengals went a perfect 9-0 in conference action en route to a SUNYAC regular season title, before falling 11-8 to Cortland in the league’s championship game. The Bengals were ranked in the top-20 in the nation for the first time in the program’s history.
