Buffalo State head softball coach Sandra Hollander was named recognized last night at the Buffalo Spree Magazine’s Best of Western New York Awards as the area’s Female Coach of the Year. Hollander led the Bengals to a conference title and national top-25 ranking.
Hollander, also recognized as the SUNYAC Co-Coach of the Year and ECAC Upstate Coach of the Year, paced her Bengals to a school record 33 victories, compared to just 14 losses. After capturing the school’s fourth SUNYAC Championship, and first since 2000, the Bengals advanced to the regional championship game. Buffalo State came within a single game of advancing to the College World Series for the first time in school history.
Hollander also became just the 23rd softball coach in Division III history to win 500 career games, running her overall record to 516-295-2 in 21 years.
