Buffalo State has selected Dan Allen, an accomplished collegiate swimmer and coach with SUNYAC roots, to assume the role of head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach effective immediately.

“I am extremely excited and honored to be the next head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach at Buffalo State College,” said Allen. “I want to personally thank Jerry Boyes and Tom Koller for providing me this great opportunity. I can’t wait to meet the team, start building relationships, and begin moving forward into a new, rich era of Bengals’ swimming and diving.”

Allen was the head coach at Division II Salem International University last season. Prior to that stint, he served as an associate coach for four years at his alma mater, Geneseo, assisting in all aspects of the program, while serving as the primary coach for the distance swimmers. He helped mentor 13 NCAA Division III Championship participants that earned 45 All-American certificates, and helped coach his teams to a combined six SUNYAC titles. Allen was part of a staff that was twice the recipient of the SUNYAC Coaching Staff of the Year.

Allen was also a standout swimmer at Geneseo. A 13-time SUNYAC champion, he helped lead his team to three team titles and was named the 2005 SUNYAC Championship Most Outstanding Swimmer. Allen was a participant in the 2004 NCAA Championships and was honored as the 2004 Rochester Area College Swimmer of the Year.

His additional coaching experience includes work with Geneseo, Hamilton and the University of Texas swim camps, and serving as the head swimming coach at Penfield Country Club. He is also certified in lifeguarding/first aid and CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, and is a water safety instructor trainer.

A native of Rochester, Allen completed his bachelor’s degree in communication from Geneseo in 2006.
