BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo State scored three second-half goals, two by forward
Melissa Smith (N. Tonawanda/Niagara Wheatfield), to down Fredonia, 3-0 to remain perfect in SUNYAC play at Coyer Field on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite controlling possession for most of the first 45 minutes, Buffalo State found itself tied 0-0 heading into half-time.
- Smith struck first for the Bengals in the 50th minute, heading home a header-pass from Jada Sargeant(Camillus/Marcellus) to make it 1-0. The play was set up by a flip-throw in from Alexis Carillo (Pine Bush/Pine Bush). Carillo's throw was deflected by Sargeant to Smith and the senior forward found the back of the net.
- Just four minutes later, Smith struck again, putting home a perfect cross from Catherine Mammoser(Lackawanna/Eden) to make it 2-0, Buffalo State.
- Lindsay Mahoney (Port Jefferson/St. John the Baptist) put the final nail in the coffin of Fredonia in the 73rdminute with her first goal of the season, knocking in a header off a Breanna Knight (Valley Stream/Valley Stream South) cross to make it 3-0.
- Taylor Carillo (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) made three saves to record her fifth shutout of the season, and fourth blank sheet in a row. Her shutout streak now stands at 439 minutes and 55 seconds.

- Kendall Owczarzak made 10 saves in the losing effort.
NOTEWORTHY
- Buffalo States starts 3-0 in SUNYAC play for the second-straight season. The Bengals did not drop a regular-season conference match at all last year, going 8-0-1, en route to a SUNYAC Championship appearance.
- It is the first time since 2006 that a Buffalo State goalkeeper has recorded four shutouts in a row.
- Coming into the game, Smith was tied for second in the NCAA in game-winning goals. She now has five on the season.
- Buffalo State and Fredonia are tied with one win apiece in its yearly Battle by the Lake competition, after a late Fredonia goal downed men's soccer, 3-2 earlier in the afternoon.
