THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE:  Stevenson – 4, Buffalo State - 3
LOCATION: Buffalo State Ice Arena – Buffalo, N.Y.
RECORDS: Stevenson (5-5-0), Buffalo State (5-2-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State opened the scoring in the middle of the first period with a power-play marker when Roberts Smits (Riga, Latvia) one-timed a pass from Zach Remers (Clarence, NY/Canisius) through the goalie's legs for his third goal of the season.  Brody Power (Toronto, ON/Upper Canada College) also was credited with and assist.
  • The Bengals pushed the lead to 2-0 as Zach Nieminen (Ajax, ON/Notre Dame CSS) converted a shorthanded breakaway with less than one second remaining in the opening frame.  Taylor Pryce (Newmarket, ON/Cardinal Carter) had a clear breakaway while killing the same power play moments early, but could not settle a rolling puck.
  • Play evened out some in the second period and the score remained 2-0 entering the final 20 minutes.
  • The Mustangs then netted three goals in a span of 5:23 to take the lead.
  • After not scoring in five periods on the weekend, Stevenson struck first 1:42 into the third, tallying just four seconds after its power play ended.  The Mustangs evened the score just under two minutes later and then took the lead 7:06 into the frame.
  • Pryce pulled Buffalo State even with a power-play goal just 45 seconds later with assists from Nieminen and Darren Young (Woodstock, ON/St. Mary's).
  • Stevenson answered with the game-winner with just over eight minutes remaining however, and withstood a couple of late flurries to hold on for the victory.
  • Freshman Andrei Svistunov (Moscow, Russia) finished with 25 saves in the loss in his first collegiate action.
  • Buffalo State finished with a 45-29 advantage in shots and was 2 for 5 on the power play plus a shorthanded goal.

FOR THE FOES
  • Nick Bohatiuk scored twice for Stevenson, while Jordan Watt and Jack Raleigh also scored.
  • Jacob Caffrey made 42 saves in the win.
