The Sports Arena boasts a 3,500-seat basketball arena and a one-tenth-mile (160 meter) indoor track.  The Arena sits adjacent to the 1,800-seat Ice Arena (Buffalo's only collegiate ice rink), and houses the Buffalo State Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame.

The Sports Arena is the home venue for men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball and indoor track and field, and is a practice facility for several of Buffalo State's other teams.

Since opening in 1991, the facility has hosted the World University Games, the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Final Four, high school sectionals in volleyball, track & field and basketball, and numerous other special events. 

The Arena has also hosted numerous concerts, including Smashing Pumpkins, Tea Party, Lupe Fiasco, D12, Nickelback, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Busta Rhymes, The Wallflowers, All-American Rejects, Gym Class Heroes, Good Charlotte, Fabolous, J. Cole, Maino, Chris Rock, Carlos Mencia and more.
