Women’s Hockey blasts Neumann, 6-0

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Bri Carroll (Peoria, AZ/AZ Virtual Academy) tallied two goals and an assist and Justine Silva (Baldwin Park, CA/Arroyo) made 32 saves to lead Buffalo State to a lopsided 6-0 home victory over Neumann this evening in an ECAC West contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Natasha Steinle (Morrison, CO/CIHA) added a pair of goals for the Bengals in the win, while Erin Gehen (W. Seneca, NY/W. Seneca West) and Viivi Vaattovaara (Veikkola, Finland) chipped in a goal and an assist apiece.
  • Madeline Kromer (Angola, NY/Lake View) tallied a pair of helpers.
  • Carroll opened the scoring just 2:08 into the contest and the score remained 1-0 after the opening 20 minutes.
  • Vaattovaara wristed a shot through a screen on the power play early in the second period to extend the lead with her second goal of the season.
  • Carroll added an unassisted shorthanded tally for her second of the game and eighth of the year later in the frame.
  • Buffalo State pulled away in the final stanza, tacking on three more goals. 
  • Gehen wristed home her 15th of the season, followed by Steinle's ninth and 10th of the season to close out the scoring.
  • Buffalo State finished with a 35-32 advantage in shots on goal.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Helen Cooney allowed five goals on 32 shots before being relieved by Julia Fair for the final 9:34.
 
NOTEWORTHY
  • Buffalo State has posted four-straight wins by a combined score of 23-4.
