BUFFALO, N.Y.—
Marie Curran-Headley will step down as Buffalo State's head softball coach and assistant director of athletics/senior woman administrator effective August 13 to become the director of athletics at SUNY Cobleskill.
Curran-Headley came to Buffalo State as an assistant softball coach in 2010. She officially became the seventh head coach in the history of the Bengals' softball program in the summer of 2012, after assuming the role in an interim capacity in 2012 after the passing of Sandy Hollander. Curran has guided the Bengals to the SUNYAC playoffs in five of her first six seasons at the helm and has an overall record of 101-109.
In addition to her role as head softball coach, Curran-Headley was promoted to senior woman administrator in 2015 and assistant director of athletics in 2016. In those capacities, she was responsible for providing administrative oversight for several sports programs, assisted with the development and management of the athletics department budget including designing policies to accommodate a 13 percent budget reduction, created the Buffalo State Student-Athlete Leadership Academy and provided oversight for all aspects of the student-athlete affairs program.
"Marie has been an extremely valuable asset to our department and to our student-athletes during her time at Buffalo State," said director of athletics
Jerry Boyes. "It is bitter sweet for us to say goodbye, but I am excited to see Marie continue to advance her career and SUNY Cobleskill is fortunate to be getting a passionate and innovative leader for its department of athletics."
Curran-Headley will start at Cobleskill on August 14. Buffalo State is conducting a national search for a new head softball coach.
